The dependence of high-end insulation materials on imports affects the profits of cable companies
Interview with Zhong Lisheng, Director of the Electrical Insulation Research Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University
In the past, many cable companies in China imported raw materials such as copper, high-end insulation materials, and cable equipment. They only invested in labor, so how could their profits increase? "Zhong Lisheng, director of the Electrical Insulation Research Center at Xi'an Jiaotong University, said bluntly in an interview with Cable Network (www.cableabc.com) at the" 2015 Global Wire and Cable Annual Conference ".
Zhong Lisheng, Director of the Electrical Insulation Research Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University, interviewed by Cable Network
During the 2014 Global Wire and Cable Annual Conference, Director Zhong Lisheng discussed the issue of localization of insulation materials for high-voltage cables. Now, a year has passed, and he believes that the overall process of domestication of insulation materials for high-voltage cables is accelerating slightly. At present, Zhong Lisheng stated that high-end insulation materials in China still rely heavily on imports, such as high-voltage DC cables and K1 class nuclear power cables, which have not yet been domestically produced.
The issue of improving the localization of high-end insulation materials is relatively complex, and relying solely on cable companies and cable material companies is not enough. From the source, including chemical companies, it is necessary to actively participate and cooperate with multiple industries, "Zhong Lisheng said.
Zhong Lisheng pointed out that the manufacturing of cables requires various cable materials, such as conductors, insulators, etc. If the materials cannot be guaranteed, in reality, it still cannot achieve true self-sufficiency.
However, it is gratifying that the research and development of high-end cable insulation materials has attracted more attention from the industry, and in recent years, many cable companies have also begun research in this area. Zhong Lisheng firmly believes that the localization of high-end cable materials is an inevitable trend in the industry's development.
The 2015 Global Wire and Cable Annual Conference was held for three days, with the theme of "Transforming the Past to Build the Future" and the purpose of "Consolidating the Wisdom of the Eight Sides and Boosting Industry Development". More than 500 industry leaders, experts, chief engineers, and entrepreneurs were invited to gather together to brainstorm and work together to promote the development of the cable industry.
